Major League Baseball Brief September 22

The Oakland A’s edged the Mariners 2-1. The M’s Luis Torrens launched a solo home run for Seattle, which fell to 81-67. The Mariners are in third place in the American League Wild Card and just a half-game back of Tampa Bay for the second spot. The final game of a three-game series is today at 12:30.

Meantime the San Francisco Giants blasted the Rockies 6-1. The Giants have won three straight to improve to 72-77, still 9.5 games back of any playoff berth. San Francisco wraps up the series with the Rockies today at noon.

Also, recently retired Giants catcher Buster Posey is joining the team's ownership group.  Multiple reports say Posey becomes one of 31 partners with a financial stake in the franchise.  He also becomes the first former Giants player to be on the board of directors.
