Major League Baseball Brief September 29

The Mariners snapped their two-game losing skid.  Seattle beat the Rangers 3-1 at T-Mobile Park.  George Kirby earned his eighth win after allowing one run over six frames.  Eugenio Suárez tallied three hits and an RBI for the Mariners, who improved to 84-and-70.  Paul Sewald locked down his 20th save of the year.  The Mariners now lead the Orioles by four-and-a-half games for the final Wild Card spot.  Seattle sends left-hander Marco Gonzales to the mound tonight. 

 

The Athletics suffered their third straight loss.  Oakland fell 4-1 to the Angels in Anaheim.  The A's went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the loss.  Adrian Martinez was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs in four-and-two-thirds innings.  Connor Capel drove in the lone run for Oakland, which fell to 56-and-99.  The A's send left-hander Cole Irvin to the mound tonight.  

 

The Giants avoided elimination for one more night after a 6-3 win over the Rockies in San Francisco.  Joc Pederson hit a two-run triple to lead offense for the Giants, who have won three straight and eight of their last nine overall.  San Francisco now sits six-and-a-half games behind Philadelphia for the final NL Wild Card spot with seven games to play.  The Giants send left-hander Carlos Rodon to the mound tonight.
