NBA Draft, Timbers Lose, Elks Win

NBA:

The draft begins at 5 Thursday. The Blazers select 3rd and every basketball fan is curious what Portland will do with the pick. San Antonio will likely make their selection shortly after they go on the clock. Then Charlotte will take either Brandon Miller or Scoot Henderson number 2. Media reports say Portland is not taking any Damian Lillard trade offers. Lillard has said he doesn’t want inexperienced players as the 32 year old wants to make a run for a ring and they need veterans who can play defense. The Blazers also have the 23rd pick.

College Athletics:

Oregon State announced the 2023 Hall of Fame inductees. Former Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis, former Football Coach Mike Riley, the 2006 Softball College World Series team and the 2016 Women’s Basketball Final 4 team, along with 7 players will be enshrined during a ceremony this Fall.

MLB:

The Mariners lost to the Yankees again yesterday, 4 to 2. Luis Castillo fell to 4 and 6 on the season with the loss, as the Ms could only manage 4 hits. Seattle will try to salvage the series with Rookie Bryan Woo on the mound in game 3 today. First pitch is at 4:05.

San Francisco scored 4 runs in the 5th and that’s all they needed to beat San Diego who scored 2 runs late. That’s 10 in a row for the Giants! They’re 10 games above .500 and 2 and a half games behind Arizona. Game 4 of the 4 game series against the Padres is today at 12:45.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers lost to Chicago 2-1 at Providence Park last night. It’s the 8th loss of the year and drops them to 10th in the MLS Western Conference.

Portland Thorns Crystal Dunn and Sophia Smith are on the US Women’s National Team roster for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starting next month.  The 2nd place Thorns play 1st place Washington tomorrow.

Local:

The Bend Elks went hitless through 3 innings but then broke out the bats to come back to beat Springfield 4 to 3 last night.  The Elks go for the series sweep tonight. First Pitch is at 6:35
