High Desert Storm To Championship Game, Elks Swept

NBA: 

The Portland Trail Blazers had their introductory press conference on Saturday for their 3 draft picks; 3rd pick Scoot Henderson will wear the number 00. 

MLB:

The Mariners lost 3 to 2 Baltimore yesterday and dropped the series. The team returns home after going 2 and 4 on the road trip last week and falling 2 games below .500 at 37 and 39. Tonight, the Nationals are in Seattle. First pitch is at 6:40. …Out Fielder Julio Rodríguez has announced he’ll be in the MLB Home Run Derby during the All Star Break.

Baltimore’s Adley Rutschman has advanced to the next phase of All Star voting. The former Oregon State catcher is one of the top 2 vote getters in the position. The All Star Game is in Seattle on July 11th.

San Francisco lost to Arizona yesterday, but won the series against the Diamondbacks, and they’re now 2 and half games behind them in the NL West. The Giants are on the road tomorrow in Toronto.

Soccer: 

The Portland Thorns are back in 1st place after the win against Washington. Sophia Smith netted a hat trick in the 4 - 2 win.  The Thorns have a group match in the NWSL Challenge cup against OL Reign on Wednesday night in Portland.

The Portland Timbers gave up a second half goal and settled for a draw with NYCFC Saturday night. The result dropped the Timbers down to 10th in the Western conference. The team looks to be picking up some defensive help with Miguel Araujo from Peru reportedly coming over to Portland in the summer transfer window via a Dutch professional team. That won’t be official until that signing period starts next week.

Local:

The Bend Elks got swept by Ridgefield after losing 8 to 3 yesterday. Next up the Elks travel to Ridgefield for a series starting Tuesday against the Raptors.

The Cascade Lakes Relay saw over 2 thousand people participate in the race from Diamond Lake Friday to Bend on Saturday. The top finishing team completed the 216.6 mile course in 22 hours 2 minutes.

The Oregon High Desert Storm beat Wenatchee 69 to 57 Saturday in Redmond to go to the American West Football Conference championship game. The Storm will take on the Idaho Horsemen in Nampa this Saturday, July 1st in the American West Bowl IV .
