Beavers Hire Bray...UO's Nix Awards Finalist

College Football:

The penultimate playoff rankings came out yesterday.

Oregon is now number 5.

Washington moved up to number 3.

Oregon State comes in at 20, and have hired a new head coach. Defensive Coordinator Trent Bray will be promoted. OSU Athletics Director Scott Barnes said in the school’s press release he is quote,"excited to be able to announce Trent as the next head coach... He's been a part of Beaver Nation for a long time and love for this place is real. The connection and trust he has built with student athletes is unmatched. His energy and determination as head coach will be a catalyst for continued program success." After the news broke that Jonathon Smith was leaving for Michigan State, reports surfaced of fans making 44 dollar donations to the school’s Name Image Likeness Fund. That happens to be the jersey number worn by Bray when he played for OSU. Oregon State named Kefense Hynson interim head coach. There was no word on who will coach the team in the Beavers’ bowl game.

Season individual awards will be handed out next week.

UO quarterback Bo Nix and U Dub QB Michael Penix Jr are finalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The signal callers are also finalists for the Maxwell Award, going to the most outstanding player, and the Walter Camp National Player of the Year.

The Ducks will take on the Huskies in Las Vegas Friday in the Pac 12 title game.

The court battle for control of the Pac 12 continues. Yesterday the Washington Supreme Court ruled in favor of the University of Washington and the other 9 schools to stop a lower court’s order to give control of the conference’s assets to Oregon State and Washington State. Another review on the ruling is set for December 12th.

Meanwhile, a Yahoo Sports report says the Beavers and Cougars are working on a 2024 football schedule with the Mountain West conference.
