OSU, UO Set NCAA Regionals Friday

College Baseball tourney time: regionals games were announced yesterday

Oregon State is the Number 1 seed at the Corvallis Regional and will host No. 2 UC Irvine, No. 3 Nicholls State and No. 4 Tulane. The Beavers start with Tulane Friday night as the number 15 overall seed in the tournament. OSU is 7th in the Coaches Poll, 8th in the Writers’ and Perfect Game polls, only sliding a little if not at all after going 1 and 1 in pool play in last week’s Pac 12 tournament. 

The Ducks have now made it to four consecutive postseasons. Oregon travels to Santa Barbara for UC S-B’s regional and will face San Diego on Friday afternoon. They advanced to a super regional last season. The U of O fell out of the polls after not getting out of the Pac 12 tourney first round.

MLB: 

The Giants beat Philadelphia 8 to 4 yesterday with the bottom of the line-up accounting for 6 of those runs. Starting pitcher Blake Snell gave up 3 runs in the no-decision and is still looking for his first win as a Giant. San Francisco takes on the NL East leaders again tonight in game two of the series starting at 6:45.

The Mariners held off the Astros 3 to 2 last night after doing all their scoring in the first inning. That was all starter Bryce Miller needed to pick up his 4th win of the season going six innings. The MS stretched the AL West lead to 3 and a half games over Texas and 4 and a half over Houston. Game two of the series is tonight. First pitch is 6:40.

NBA:

The sports world mourns the passing of Bill Walton, who died of cancer at the age of 71 it was announced yesterday. Walton was the Trail Blazers Number 1 overall pick in the 1974 NBA Draft and played his first five NBA seasons in Portland winning the championship in 1977 and being named league and finals MVP. As a broadcaster Walton was an advocate for the conference of champions calling many Pac 12 games with Ducks games in Eugene always being a special experience for him. 

Local: 

In the State Tennis Championships the Summit boys are 2nd in 5A with Caldera taking 4th. The Summit Girls took 3rd with the Redmond Girls taking 4th.

High school State tournaments today - Softball, 5A Semifinals - 2 seed Bend hosts 3 seed Silverton today at 4:30. 

5A Baseball Semifinals. 8th seed Summit is still alive and travels to take on 4 seed West Albany, 3 seed Ridgeview is at 2 seed Thurston.
