MLB:
Seattle squeaked by the White Sox last night 2 to 1 in 10 innings. Luke Raley had a solo homer and then scored the game-winning run on a Mitch Haniger walk-off single. The Mariners gave up a solo home run in the 9th that tied the game. It wasted a masterful performance by Bryce Miller who went seven shutout innings with 2 hits and 8 strikeouts for a no-decision. The Ms get the series win and go for the 4-game sweep tonight. First pitch is at 6:40.
San Francisco held off the Astros 5 to 3 last night. That gave the Giants another series win. Logan Webb gave up all three runs in six innings for the win. Leadoff man Austin Slater went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and scored a run. Today is an off day with the Angels at Oracle Park tomorrow.
NFL:
Seattle finishes its three day mandatory minicamp. Coach Mike Macdonald continues to talk patience as he shapes the team.
College Baseball:
Oregon State infielder Travis Bazzana and right-handed pitcher Bridger Holmes have been named First-Team All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday. Right-handed pitchers Aiden May and Jacob Kmatz were named Third-Team All-Americans. The Beavers' four selections are tied with Tennessee for the second-most nationally, one shy of Texas A&M.
Bazzana, May, Holmes, and outfielder Gavin Turley have all been named All-Region First-Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). It makes the four eligible for All-American honors which will be announced later this month.
Local:
The Elks exploded for 12 runs on 15 hits against Springfield last night, holding the Drifters to 3 runs. 2 coming in the 9th inning. Bend had an 8-run 6th inning to get the series win. They go for the sweep tonight. First pitch from Vince Genna is at 6:35.
