Elks Win In Walla Walla...Beavs, Ducks At MLB Combine

MLB:

The Mariners took down Cleveland 8 to 5 yesterday. Seattle scored 4 runs in the third including a three-run homer from JP Crawford, then scored 1 run in each of the next four innings. Luke Raley and Dylan Moore also went deep. The homers were among nine extra-base hits. Bryce Miller went five and two thirds for the win, which puts the first place Ms 10 games over the Astros and Rangers who both lost. Game two against the Guardians is at 3:40.

San Francisco fell 5 - 2 to the Cubs yesterday. Logan Webb went seven innings, giving up two runs. He left with a no decision since the Giants tied the game in the 5th. The Bullpen gave up three runs in the 8th inning. The rubber match is this morning. First pitch from Wrigley Field is 11:20. One other note, Pitcher Blake Snell threw a bullpen session in San Francisco yesterday. The pitcher has been out with a groin strain since early June. Manager Bob Melvin said they should be able to make a determination by the end of the week on Snell’s return to the rotation.

College Baseball:

Oregon State has five players invited to this week’s MLB draft combine: pitchers Aiden May, Jacob Kmatz, and Bridger Holmes, and sluggers Mason Guerra and Elijah Hanline. The combine is today through Sunday in Arizona. The Beavers’ Travis Bazanna could be the number one overall selection.

Oregon’s Bryce Boettcher is also at the combine. Yesterday the centerfielder was named a finalist for the American Baseball Coaches Association Gold Glove Award. The winners will be announced today.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers play at San Jose tonight at 7:30.

Local:

The Elks held off a late Walla Walla rally last night, to beat the Sweets 7 to 5. Bend is now 9 and 7 , and winners of seven of their last 10 games. First pitch tonight in Walla Walla is at 6:35.
