College Football:
Oregon State head coach Trent Bray says the defense can get better and the offense will try to stretch the field more as quarterback Gevani McCoy gets comfortable with the offense. Bray told reporters at his media availability yesterday the 3 -1 Beavers had a good week of practice last week and are moving into game week preparations as Colorado State comes in Saturday afternoon.
Number 6 ranked Oregon has Michigan State and former Beavers coach Jonathon Smith at Autzen Friday. Yesterday head coach Dan Lanning said his squad is ramping up preparations for the short practice week.
MLB:
San Francisco will introduce Giants legend Buster Posey as their new president of baseball operations at a press event today alongside chairman Greg Johnson and manager Bob Melvin.
NFL:
San Francisco running back Christian McCaffery has achilles tendonitis in both legs according to reports. The All-Pro hasn’t played all season.
Seattle’s loss to Detroit puts them at 3 - 1 but still atop the NFC West after the first month.
NBA:
The Trail Blazers have 19 players in training camp which opens today. Yesterday during the Blazers’ media day in Portland, front office officials, coaches and players answered questions from the press. GM Joe Cronin is pleased with the offseason moves made to the roster, but understands the team won’t compete at a high level yet. He says the franchise will continue to be active in looking to acquire players or draft picks.
Head coach Chauncey Billups is in the last year of his contract. He pointed to new additions on his coaching bench that should help both him and the team. Billups also said the quiet part out loud; the fate of Portland’s whole future rests on the health and improvement of guards Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and Anfernee Simons.
Soccer:
The Portland Thorns are 7th place in the NWSL. The Thorns have a women’s CONCACAF match against Panamanian side Santa Fe tonight (Tu) starting at 7:30.
