College Football:
Oregon State’s double overtime thriller in Corvallis had some dramatic moments and big plays during the 39-31 win over Colorado State. After the game, head coach Trent Bray said he liked his team’s ability to pull out the win but pointed to some mistakes on both sides of the ball that will have to be cleaned up going forward. The Beavers move to 4 and 1 and head to Reno Saturday to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Oregon is now 5 - 0 and moved up to number 3 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches poll following Friday’s drubbing of Michigan State. That sets up number 2 Ohio State at number 3 Oregon this Saturday. ESPN’s College game day program will be in Eugene that morning. NFL: Week 5 yesterday!
Seattle dropped to 3 and 2 after an upset by the New York Giants at Lumen Field yesterday 29-20. Geno Smith threw for 284 yards and a score but was sacked 7 times by a relentless G-Men Defense.
San Francisco blew a 13 point lead in getting shutout in the second half going down 24 - 23 to Arizona. They also lost kicker Jake Moody in the 2nd quarter to what coach Kyle Shanahan called a high ankle injury. The 49ers sit at 2 - 3 with the Cardinals behind 1st place Seattle in the NFC West. The Rams are at the bottom at 1 - 4.
NBA:
The Trail Blazers are starting this season the way the last one ended with players heading to the injured list. Robert Williams III and Shaedon Sharpe will both miss time over preseason and the start of the regular season.
Soccer:
The Portland Timbers played FC Dallas to a draw yesterday. That sends the Timbers to the 9th spot in the MLS West right at the cut line for the playoffs. The regular season finishes on October 19th.
The Thorns lost again and remain in 7th place in the NWSL standings.
