Ducks Defensive Lineman Jordan Burch is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Michigan State Friday. The senior recorded a career-high 2.5 sacks, four tackles and a fumble recovery. Burch is tied for the conference lead with 5 sacks on the season; that’s also a career high. Burch and the rest of Number 3 Oregon will have their hands full against number 2 Ohio State Saturday afternoon. Oregon State head coach Trent Bray speaking after yesterday’s practice told reporters Nevada’s offensive weapons and strong pass rush will be a particulaor challenge for his squad in Reno. Running Back Jam Griffin got banged up with a leg injury in the win against Colorado State and will be limited if he plays at all. OSU will learn more about his status as soon as today. The 4-1 Beavers also got the kickoff time for the October 19th meeting when they host UNLV. It will be a primetime game on The CW TV network at 7 pm.
NFL:
Seattle and San Francisco are both looking at making big turnarounds in Thursday’s matchup. Each team is coming off upset losses and will be missing starters heading into the marquee NFC West meeting. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said after the Giants loss the defense was making ‘fundamental’ mistakes that can’t happen anymore. Quarterback Geno Smith agreed the team ‘played bad’. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says his team is ‘extremely frustrated’ with giving up the halftime lead against the Cardinals. Players speaking to local media after the game said being 2 and 3 doesn’t feel normal but they’re not panicking.

Yesterday, the OSAA voted to designate girls flag football as an ‘emerging activity.’ It will be an officially-sanctioned OSAA sport if over 50 schools add it over the next two years.
