Ducks Lanning, Gabriel Recognized...UO WBB, OSU MBB Win Big

College Football:

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning is a finalist for the Dodd Trophy, for the coach of the year award, and the Eddie Robinson award, which is also a coach of the year award. Oregon’s third-year coach is among five finalists, including Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, and Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is first team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America. Defensive tackle Derrick Harmon is a second team selection.

Gabriel’s NFL draft stock is rising. Reports show he’s a projected top 15 pick and potentially top 10. Gabriel’s talent  combined with the success former QB Bo Nix is having with Denver is also partly responsible for the very early pre-draft chatter.

College Hoops:

The Oregon Women moved to 8 - 3 and handed Air Force just their second loss of the season. The Duck held the Falcons to single digit scoring in all but the 3rd quarter when the academy scored 10. Final 98 - 36 from Matthew Knight Arena.

The Oregon State Men also blew out their opponent at home. The Beavers easily handled Sacramento State 82 - 45 last night at Gill Coliseum to move to 8 - 2 on the season, thanks to another 4 game win streak. OSU heads to Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic this weekend.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers are off until tomorrow night but they’re right in the middle of trade rumors. The Lakers are reportedly interested in acquiring both Jerami Grant and Robert Williams III, in exchange for role players and draft picks. Los Angeles has been underperforming so far, just a few games ahead of Portland in the Western Conference. Denver visits Rip City tomorrow.

Local:

The OSAA Girls basketball Coaches polls this week have Crook County number 7 in 4A, Redmond is 5th and Summit is 10th in 5A.
