Oregon State To Open MCWS Friday

College Baseball:

More postseason honors are being announced: Oregon State outfielder Gavin Turley and shortstop Aiva Arquette have been named All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

 

Turley, an All-American for the first time, is a second-team selection; Arquette, a third-teamer.

Turley leads the Beavers with 19 home runs including four in the postseason. He also leads the team with 66 RBI and is second with a .346 batting average. 

 

Arquette leads the Beavers with a .354 batting average while hitting 18 home runs. Arquette sports a .982 fielding percentage making him a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award for the top shortstop. He is also a Second-Team All-American selection by Perfect Game.

 

Meanwhile in Eugene…

Oregon outfielder Mason Neville, starting pitcher Grayson Grinsell and first baseman Jacob Walsh have been named All-Americans by the baseball writers, with Neville earning first-team honors and Grinsell and Walsh claiming third-team accolades.  With three players on the teams, it marks the most Ducks to be honored as All-Americans in a single season.

 

Oregon State To Open MCWS Friday

The Oregon State baseball team will begin its run in Omaha on Friday. The Beavers will play their first game against Louisville. OSU and the Cardinals have played just once previously, with the Beavers winning 11-4 in the 2013 College World Series. This is Oregon State's first trip to Omaha since winning the 2018 national title.

 

MLB:

Seattle lost in Arizona 5 - 3 yesterday. The sweep sends the Mariners a game under .500 and back home to play Cleveland tomorrow.

 

The Giants kept the winning streak intact beating Colorado yesterday but the 1-run win streak came to an end in the 10 - 7 comeback win.

 

San Francisco remains a half game behind the Dodgers in the NL West. 

First pitch against the Rockies to finish the series is at 12:10.

 

NBA:

The Trail Blazers continue to evaluate players ahead of the draft. There’s also a lot of chatter about potential draft night moves for Portland involving their pick and players like Deandre Ayton and Anfernee Simons.

 

MLS Recap:

 The Timbers and Sounders will both take the field this week. Portland will wrap up its season series with San Jose on Friday at home. The Timbers are winless against the Earthquakes this season, losing 4-1 in regular season action and 1-0 in the US Open Cup. Sunday, the Sounders will take on Brazilian side Botafogo in the first game of the FIFA Club World Cup.

 

Local:

The Bend Elks lost last night in Bellingham. They’re back at it again with the Bells tonight trying to avoid the sweep.
