UO Loses Top High School Football Recruit To Texas A&M

MLB:

San Francisco beat Cleveland  2 - 1 last night behind Wilmer Flores coming off the bench for a 2-run pinch hit in the 7th and 7 strong innings from starting pitcher Logan Webb who gave up one earned run, striking out 9. The Giants are 4 games behind the Dodgers. The Red Sox visit San Francisco for a weekend series starting at 7:15 tonight,

 

Seattle starts the day in 2nd place in the AL west 5.5 games behind Houston. The Ms are in Chicago for a weekend series of day games with the Cubs. Just like old days before Wrigley Field had lights. Although technically the Mariners never had to play matinee-only series because that was before interleague play. First pitch starting at 11:20 our time and same for tomorrow and Sunday.

 

NFL: 

The Seattle Seahawks will participate in a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Aug. 21st ahead of the Seahawks-Packers preseason matchup on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Lambeau Field, which is the third and final preseason game for both teams.

 

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

One of the top high school football recruits in the nation is turning down the University of Oregon. Brandon Arrington announced his commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday after narrowing down his recruitment between them and UO. Arrington is a five-star recruit and ESPN's 14th ranked overall player in the 2026 high school football recruiting cycle. He is now the 17th commit to Texas A&M's class and its highest-rated player.

 

LOCAL:

The Bend Elks lost in a slugfest 15 - 7 to Springfield last night. They’re back on the road tonight in Portland. First pitch against the Pickles is 7:15.

The Cascade Relays is under way. The endurance race is 216, 132 or 94 miles for up to a dozen runners in each team. They start at Diamond Lake today traversing south east near Crater Lake and Silver lake before taking on the Cascade Lakes Highway route into Bend finishing at River Bend park tomorrow. Watch for race traffic throughout the Cascade Lakes Highway from Bend south to Diamond Lake now through tomorrow afternoon.
