MLB:
Cal Raleigh will join Team USA for the World Baseball Classic next year. Raleigh joins New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, named the team captain, Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes and Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. in committing to play for manager Mark DeRosa next spring according to Yahoo Sports. Team USA will begin play next March. Raleigh was the Home Run Derby champion and starting catcher in last night’s All Star game where he went 1 for 2. Former OSU standout Steven Kwan from the Guardians tied the game with an RBI in the 9th that sent the game to the swing-off tie-breaker.
NBA:
Portland is now 2 - 1 in Summer League after holding off New Orleans last night. Second year-forward Rayan Rupert led the team with 24 points . Rookie center Yang Hansen showed off some range going 3 for 6 from 3-point distance finishing with 15 points. Rookie guard Caleb Love had a good run logging the most playing time with 33 minutes finishing with a double-double of 17 points with 12 rebounds and 5 assists against 1 turnover to boot.
Next up for the young Blazers in Las Vegas is the Houston Rockets tomorrow.
SOCCER:
The Timbers are gearing up for a home game tonight. Portland will battle Real Salt Lake in the Rose City. The Timbers tied RSL 0-0 when the teams met in May.
LOCAL:
The Elks exhibition against the NW Star Academy went well for the home team serving up a 15 - 5 win over the Nighthawks. Tonight is the All Star game in Bellingham.
