COLLEGE FOOTBALL:
Oregon’s training camp starts today. Six Ducks were named to preseason watch lists for major awards.
Inside linebacker Bryce Boettcher, defensive back Dillon Thieneman and outside linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei were all selected to the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which recognizes the most outstanding defensive player
Offensive linemen Iapani Laloulu, Emmanuel Pregnon and Isaiah World are on the Outland Trophy watch list, for top interior lineman. The season starts August 30th. We’ll have the Ducks Insider Daily podcast back again next week at KBND dot com.
Oregon State starts camp today too. The Beavers will once again play an independent schedule starting August 30th against former Pac 12 opponent Cal.
COLLEGE BASEBALL:
The Oregon State baseball team added another transfer. The Beavers received a commitment from Eastern Michigan transfer Cooper Vance on Tuesday. Vance hit .301 with six home runs and 30 RBIs for the Eagles this season.
MLB:
San Francisco dropped another one to the Pirates last night, going down 3 -1. The loss sends the Giants back to .500 and five games behind the Padres in the wild card. Game 3 against Pittsburgh starts at 12:45.
The Mariners lost to the A’s in Sacramento last night 6 - 1. That loss keeps them a game ahead of Texas for the final wild card spot. The series finishes tonight at 7:05
NFL:
Training camp notes-
The Seahawks signed rookie Defensive Tackle Thor Griffith, an undrafted rookie from Louisville. The team talked about establishing its running game and setting that tone early in training camp.
San Francisco completed their second block of practices during training camp. First-round pick Mykel Williams did not practice yesterday due to a “minor ankle” injury. The defensive lineman dealt with an ankle injury in his final college season.
LOCAL:
The Elks got roughed up by Portland 10 - 2 last night. It’s a double header today starting at 4:05 at Vince Genna.
