SPORTS 8-5-25

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Oregon came in at number 7 in the Preseason Coaches poll released yesterday. They’re the third-ranked Big 10 team behind Ohio State and Penn State…Washington also received votes.

Ducks running back Makhi Hughes and quarterback Dante Moore have landed spots on the preseason watch list for the 2025 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, announced yesterday. They're two of just 45 players nationwide recognized by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Oregon is among only eight schools with multiple honorees. For Hughes, it’s his second player of the year watch list this preseason—he’s also a candidate for the Maxwell Award and received preseason All-American honors. Fall practice is now underway for Hughes, Moore, and the rest of the Ducks.

Oregon State running back Anthony Hankerson is also on the Camp Watchlist. The senior is starting his second season with the Beavers after running for 1,082 yards last year with 15 rushing touchdowns.  Ranking sixth all time in a single season at Oregon State. Hank is also on the Maxwell award list.

OSU’s Dylan Black was named to The Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List, an honor given to the nation's best long snapper. Black, a redshirt senior from Reno has played in 46 games at Oregon State and was a semifinalist for the Witten Man of the Year Award in 2024.
