COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein didn’t exactly give a stellar report for his offense as the Ducks broke fall camp yesterday.  He said the squad was quote ‘getting there’ end quote when asked if they had met the standard he wanted to see. Coach Stein said his three quarterbacks are also continuing to compete to the QB1.

Another day, another preseason watchlist…

Oregon State's Maalik Murphy was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, an honor presented annually to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback who is on track to graduate with their class.

Murphy is in his first season at Oregon State. The quarterback transferred from Duke, where he threw for a program-record 26 touchdowns in 2024. He ranked 13th nationally for passing scores and 22nd for total yardage.

Oregon State's Dylan Black, Kobe Singleton and Noble Thomas Jr. were named to the Comeback Player of the Year Preseason Watch List.

Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances.

MLB:

San Francisco fell 5 – 1 to the Padres last night. Game three of the four game series continues tonight at 6:40.

In Philadelphia, The Mariners’ Bryce Miller’s return to the mound ended up with four earned runs on four hits in five innings. He was off the hook though when the Ms tied it up at 4 all in the 7th, but a two-run go-ahead homer in the 8th gave the Phils the second win of the series. Seattle will try to avoid the sweep in the getaway game that starts this morning at 10:05 our time. They stay a game and a half out of first place and slide a half game behind the Yankees for the first wild card, in a tie with Boston.
