SPORTS 10-9-25

MLB:

The Mariners couldn’t hang on to a 3 – 0 lead and dropped game 4 of the Divisional series 9 – 3 to the Tigers. That evens the best of five series at two games apiece. The teams go back to Seattle today for the 5th and final game in the series with the winner advancing to the American League Championship. Game time tomorrow is 1:40.

CFB:

Oregon State’s new special teams coach Robb Akey, who had been serving as a special assistant to head coach Trent Bray, says they need to take an unfortunate situation and tighten up to make it better.  During his media availability yesterday, he mentioned the staff feels sick about the 0 and 6 record, and are keeping the focus on finishing games strong. It’s homecoming in Corvallis with a 12:30 kickoff against Wake Forest Saturday.

Ducks head coach Dan Lanning says his team is preparing for some plays they haven’t seen before from the Hoosiers when they come to Autzen Saturday. The coach said they are working on some new wrinkles on offense and defense also. The U of O will still be missing some key players including receivers Dillon Gresham and Evan Stewart, and safety Trey McNutt.  Number 3 Oregon vs number 7 Indiana is Saturday with the pregame broadcast from Eugene starting at 10:30.

NFL:

Quarterback Mac Jones will likely be the 49ers starter again this Sunday as Brock Purdy didn’t practice yesterday with his toe injury. Wide receivers Juann Jennings and Ricky Pearsall also weren’t available. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan says he’s not counting on either receiver to return Sunday when the 9ers go to Tampa.

The Seahawks did not get defensive back Devon Witherspoon, safety Julian Love and outside linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence at practice yesterday. Head Coach Mike Macdonald said decisions on the players status probably won’t come until tomorrow or even game-time. Seven players in all were on the Did Not Participate list. Seattle goes to Jacksonville Sunday.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers began the preseason on a down note. Portland lost to the Golden State Warriors 129-123 on the road. Shaedon Sharpe scored 22 points in the setback, while Toumani Camara and Deni Avdija scored 14 points each. The Blazers will continue their preseason slate Friday at home against the Kings.
