Oregon Football Ranked Fifth In CFP Poll

Oregon moved up to number 5 in the latest playoff rankings, making the 4th week in a row the U of O has bumped up a notch on the committee’s poll. One final playoff ranking will be released after this weekend’s Championship games.

The Athletic is reporting that Cal is targeting Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi [[ LOO-poy ]] to become its next head coach and he is expected to be hired in the coming days. Lupoi played at Cal in the early aughts, before coaching with the Golden Bears beginning in 2008.  The Bay Area native has spent the past four seasons as DC in Eugene.

Lupoi was also announced as one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles Award, going to college football's top assistant coach for the 2025 season.

Offensive Coordinator Will Stein will be the new coach at Kentucky and coach Oregon in the playoffs before he heads for Lexington.

JaMarcus Shephard was introduced as Oregon State’s new Head Football Coach yesterday as he and Athletic Director Scott Barnes took questions from the assembled media. Many members of the press came away very impressed with the new Coach’s presentation. Beaver-nation’s reaction to Shephard’s hiring has been overwhelmingly positive … all things considered.

Of note, Shephard will continue his coaching role at Alabama for, at least, this Saturday’s SEC Championship game.

Today (Wed) is national signing day for high school seniors to make official their commitments to D1 schools. The signing period runs through Friday.

 

NBA:

The Trailblazers lost in Toronto yesterday 121 – 118 extending the losing streak to three games. Den Avdija finished with 25 points, 14 assists and was two rebounds shy of another triple double. Portland, now 8 – 13 have the back end of a road back to back today in Cleveland.

Tip-off against the Cavaliers is at 4.

 

CBB:
The Oregon Men lost to number 24 ranked USC 82 - 77 last night in the Big Ten opener. The Ducks now 4 - 4 continue conference play Saturday with a trip to UCLA.

The Oregon State men have Vermont at Gill Coliseum tonight at 6:30. The Beavers are on a five-game slide since starting the season 3 – 0.

The Oregon State women play the Oregon Women at Matthew Knight Arena tonight at 6.
