COLLEGE FOOTBALL:
Oregon held its media day in Eugene Monday with players and coaching staff answering questions from local reporters.
Head Coach Dan Lanning talked about his team’s sky-high expectations, and the pressure on his assistants, particularly new offensive and defensive coordinators.
“Our players are, are certainly very excited to get out there and get in the action. They've worked really, really hard this summer. I think anytime any of us coaches or staff get the opportunity to be away from Eugene for a little bit in the summer, when we come back, we recognize how beautiful and special this place is. So, we're excited to get back to work. We talk about being here and now and focusing on the moment and, and that's really where our guys' focus is.”
The Ducks start fall practice Wednesday.
MLB:
A flurry of deals yesterday at the trade deadline saw Seattle send a relief pitcher and a couple of minor league prospects to Baltimore for outfielder Taylor Ward. This season with the Orioles, Ward leads the AL in walks and ranks 6th in On Base Percentage. The right-handed hitter has some power and can drive in runs also. Ward will be needed right away as the Ms announced outfielder Luke Raley is done for the season with an arm injury.
Seattle sits three games under .500 and three games behind Houston for first place in the AL West with a week-long homestand beginning tonight with the visiting Detroit Tigers.
NFL:
The Seahawks’ first episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks streams at 6 p.m. on HBO Max tonight, and airs on HBO at 9 p.m.
The series has been around since 2001, but this is the first time it will follow a reigning Super Bowl champion.
Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald says the team is not trying to act differently for the cameras.
Quarterback Sam Darnold told Seahawks dot com it will be cool for fans to get to see more of Macdonald’s personality.
NBA:
The Portland Trail Blazers’ preseason schedule is out and includes a historic matchup at Moda Center. On Monday, October 12th, Portland will host the BC London Lions. The Lions are the reigning champions of the UK’s top pro league, and it’ll be the first time a British club faces an NBA team.
The four-game preseason schedule runs October 7th through 16th.
WNBA:
In WNBA action, the Fire will host Toronto on Thursday. Portland has lost five straight to slip to 11-and-19. Elsewhere, the Storm lost to the New York Liberty 95-83. Seattle is now 6-and-26 and will host New York again tomorrow.
