BEND, OR -- Local fire crews were busy over the holiday weekend, aside from battling the Cougar Butte Fire. A Saturday evening brush fire threatened homes in northwest Redmond (pictured above). It burned through landscape bushes, a fence and multiple trees. Investigators believe the fire started with a burn pile thought to have been extinguished.
On Sunday, Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue responded to a 17-year-old hiker in distress in the Crooked River Canyon (right). She was assessed and treated for "weakness" before being taken to St. Charles Redmond for evaluation.
And, Bend firefighters extinguished a fire between two houses, fueled by a broken gas meter on Outlook Vista Drive, Sunday afternoon. Damage was limited to the exterior siding of one house. The cause of that blaze is under investigation.
