(Salem, OR) -- A state of emergency is in effect across Oregon due to wildfire activity. Governor John Kitzhaber issued the declaration, which allows resources to be mobilized as needed, including the Oregon National Guard, to assist with firefighting efforts. The governor says dry conditions across Oregon have increased the day-to-day probability of new wildfires starting. The Guard is authorized to deploy firefighting assets as necessary throughout the fire season, based on threat and resource shortages.
