UO President Resigns

(Eugene, OR)  --  University of Oregon president Michael Gottfredson, who's been on the job for two years, is stepping down.  In his resignation letter submitted yesterday, Gottfredson said he wants to pursue "other opportunities in academia" and that his resignation is effective immediately.  Gottfredson's spokeswoman, Jennifer Winters, says she can't comment on the reason for the president's resignation.  The university's Board of Trustees has 24 hours from the receipt of Gottfredson's letter to consider his resignation.
