(Portland, OR)  --  A Portland man is charged with attempted murder after being accused of attacking the mother of his child with a hammer.  Prosecutors say 26-year-old Nathan Smith inflicted injuries on the victim that include fractures to her skull and spine during the weekend attack.  Police say Smith broke into the victim's Southeast 72nd Avenue apartment and chased her into the parking lot, then hit her multiple times with the hammer.  Smith's bail is set at 800-thousand dollars.
