Labor Secretary To Get Involved In Port Labor Dispute

(Portland, OR)  --  The secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor hopes to help end the contract dispute that's causing work slowdowns at the Port of Portland and other West Coast ports.  Secretary Tom Perez is expected to meet today with representatives of both sides in an effort to help smooth over differences in contract issues.  Loading and unloading of cargo vessels at all 29 West Coast ports have been on hold since Friday night.  Perez will meet in California to try to re-start stalled labor discussions between shipping companies and the dockworkers' union.
