Bill Aimed At Curbing Absenteeism At Oregon Schools

(Salem, OR)  --  A bill that supporters say is aimed at curbing school absenteeism in Oregon is awaiting action in committee.  The measure would gradually change state school funding to a formula based on how many students come to school rather than how many are enrolled.  Opponents of the measure say schools in poor communities would he hurt because low-income students are likely to miss more school.  The House Education Committee is considering the bill.
