(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Mayor Charlie Hales wants to impose a 25-thousand-dollar fee on developers who demolish livable single-family homes.  Mayor's office spokesperson Dana Haynes says the fee is to make developers think twice before tearing down perfectly good homes and changing the character of Portland's historic neighborhoods.  The fee would not apply to homes that pose a hazard or are considered unlivable.  The proposal will get a hearing on October 14th.
