Troutdale Asks Portland To Pay For Post Office Relocation

(Portland, OR)  --  If the downtown U.S. Post Office in Portland moves to Troutdale, Troutdale officials hope Portland will compensate for lost property taxes.  Discussions are underway between the city of Portland, the city of Troutdale, and the Port of Portland to move the downtown Portland Post Office to the Troutdale Reynolds Industrial Park.  Troutdale wants Portland to pay a replacement property-tax fee because the Postal Service, being a federal agency, wouldn't pay property taxes, unlike a private business.  Troutdale Mayor Doug Daoust told the "Portland Tribune" the issue is only in the discussion stage at this point.
