WA Lawmakers Call For Supreme Court To Reconsider Charter-School Decision

(Olympia, WA)  --  Five Democratic and five Republican Washington state legislators are asking the state Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling that charter schools are unconstitutional.  The group of lawmakers filed an amicus brief yesterday with the high court to request that the justices reconsider the decision, which declared that privately-operated, publicly-funded charter schools violate the state constitution.  The brief contends the ruling infringes on the Legislature's authority to write budgets.  State Attorney General Bob Ferguson and the Washington State Charter Schools Association have already filed motions for reconsideration.
