State: WA Driver Licenses Don't Meet Federal Standards

(Olympia, WA)  --  State officials say the federal Transportation Security Administration may stop accepting Washington state driver's licenses from airline passengers because they don't comply with federal standards.  Washington state lawmakers passed a law after federal driver's licensing standards changed a decade ago, asking the state Department of Licensing not to comply with the federal changes out of concern that it would make it easier to share users' private information.  If the feds implement a ban, possibly as soon as next year, Washingtonians with enhanced driver's licenses won't be affected.  The ban would apply to holders of standard driver's licenses or other ID cards.
