(Olympia, WA) -- Thousands of bees will have a new home this week in Olympia. In a joint effort with the Department of Enterprise Services, the Olympia Beekeepers Association has set up two hives on the grounds outside the governor's mansion for about 30-thousand honeybees. Officials say the bees are to help boost public awareness of the decline in bee populations across the country, and help pollinate Food Bank vegetable gardens on the capitol campus. The "Spokesman-Review" reports the association will eventually install "bee condos" for several species of mason bees, which experts say are even better pollinators than honeybees.
