Portland Police Chief On Leave In Shooting Probe

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Police Chief Larry O'Dea is on administrative leave after he reportedly misled investigators about an accidental shooting.  Mayor Charlie Hales said yesterday he took the action in the best interests of the city and the Portland Police Bureau.  "The Oregonian" reports O'Dea failed to identify himself as a police officer when he first talked to a deputy sheriff about the April 21st hunting accident, and led the deputy to believe the shooting was self-inflicted.  It wasn't until authorities interviewed O'Dea's wounded hunting companion four weeks later that they learned the chief was actually involved in the shooting.
