(Salem, OR) -- Former Oregon first lady Cylvia Hayes must pay "The Oregonian" nearly 128-thousand dollars to cover its legal costs for her unsuccessful public-records lawsuit. The decision was announced yesterday by Marion County Judge Tracy Prall, a year-and-a-half after the newspaper first requested Hayes's personal emails regarding an alleged influence-peddling scandal involving her fiance, then-Governor John Kitzhaber. Kitzhaber later resigned and is still under federal investigation. Hayes contended she didn't have to release the emails because she wasn't a public official and was not subject to public-records laws, but a judge disagreed and ruled in the newspaper's favor.
