SPD Non-Emergency Phone Line Redirected To Scam Number

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Police Department is investigating after calls to SPD's non-emergency line were diverted to a scammer.  The department says callers who dialed the number yesterday between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. likely heard a voice message from someone who posed as the U.S. Marshals Service with instructions to leave contact information.  The department says if those callers get a response regarding the message or receive a phone call from someone posing as law enforcement and asking for money or personal information, they should call 911 and report it.  Seattle PD says it never asks for payment of fines or fees or seeks personal information over the phone.
