Seattle Mayor's Budget Proposes More Spending To Fight Homelessness

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mayor Ed Murray wants to spend another 12-million dollars to combat homelessness in Seattle.  The mayor says despite the fact that spending on the crisis has risen 40 percent since he took office, the city must do better when so many lives are at stake.  Murray says he wants to focus more on people being placed in permanent housing and funding the conversion of an existing shelter into a 24-hour homeless help center.  The mayor's proposed budget also includes improving Seattle's 911 system and funding a new downtown streetcar line.
