(Portland, OR)  --  The press secretary for Republican candidate for governor Bud Pierce is no longer with the campaign.  Stacey Kafka tells the "Portland Tribune" she resigned because of comments Pierce made about violence against women during last week's debate.  Pierce said "a woman that has a great education and training and a great job is not susceptible to this kind of abuse by men."  Pierce later apologized to Democratic incumbent Kate Brown and others, saying he misspoke and meant to say that women who are educated and who have resources are better able to escape abusive situations.
