Portland Man Says He Punched Shark During Attack

(Portland, OR)  --  A Portland man continues to recover, after being bitten by a shark while surfing off Indian Beach at Ecola State Park.  Twenty-nine-year-old Joseph Tanner suffered serious wounds to his leg in the Monday attack, and used his knowledge as a registered nurse to direct onlookers in rendering aid.  Tanner's brother, Noah Beck, says Tanner punched the shark in the gills after the animal grabbed his leg, and forced the shark to let go.  Beaches remain open at Ecola State Park, but warning signs about the presence of sharks have been posted.
