(Portland, OR) -- A Portland fire lieutenant is being praised for his swift action to save several people during an explosion that rocked a north-west neighborhood. Chief Mike Meyers says Lieutenant Peter St. John single-handedly ran into a building and pulled the fire alarms, warning people to quickly get out. St. John was one of eight people hurt during the explosion that destroyed three businesses. It happened when a construction worker hit a gas line. No one was killed.
