(Portland, OR) -- Police are crediting neighbors for detaining a hit-and-run suspect following two crashes in Northeast Portland. Authorities say the suspect tried to flee on foot Saturday after he crashed into a minivan after running a red light at the intersection of Northeast 148th Avenue and Halsey Street, then drove on and crashed into a telephone pole on Northeast 160th Avenue. Police say several witnesses detained 42-year-old Matthew Washington and held him down until officers arrived. Washington was arrested on multiple charges, including DUII.
