(Portland, OR)  --  Portland police are warning residents about a new technique being used by bicycle thieves.  Police say thieves are modifying serial numbers on stolen bikes in order to thwart efforts to recover them.  Police say they recovered one stolen bike with all of the ones in the serial number altered to look like sevens.  Police are encouraging people to know their bike's serial number and to register their bikes with Portland police online.
