Former Rep. Fagan Challenging Monroe For Senate Seat

(Portland, OR)  --  Former state Representative Shemia Fagan is throwing her hat into the ring for Senate District 24.  Fagan says she plans to challenge Senator Rod Monroe for the seat next year due to his opposition to a bill protecting tenants earlier this year.  Fagan tells The Portland Tribune that the housing shortage has become a crisis, adding, quote, "If a legislator is unwilling to listen to people who have an absolutely basic need for housing, then it's probably time to move on from being a legislator."  Monroe opposed House Bill 2005, saying its provisions banning no-cause evictions and allowing rent control would only make the affordable housing shortage worse.  Monroe is a landlord of a multifamily apartment complex.
