(Portland, OR) -- The ACLU is suing the city of Portland over the police bureau's move to "kettle" dozens of protesters during a June demonstration. The organization says police violated protesters rights by holding them inside a city block without food or bathrooms, refusing to let them leave for nearly an hour. The demonstrators were counter-protesting at a Trump Free Speech Rally when police blocked them in. The ACLU says police shot pepper bullets at protesters who tried to leave the blocked-in area. Police also allegedly photographed each counter-protester and jotted down their identifying information before allowing them to leave the area.
