(Reston, VA) -- Scientists say this week's earthquake in Alaska that put Western Oregon on tsunami watch caused ripples in the deep underground waters of Florida. Scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey found that when the magnitude 7.9 quake struck off Kodiak, Alaska on Tuesday morning, the water level at a well in Madison in North Florida rose two inches. And the level at a well in Fort Lauderdale dropped an inch-and-a-half. The USGS says both returned to normal in about an hour.
