(Newport, OR) -- The actor best known for playing Major Charles Emerson Winchester the Third on the television series MASH has died at his home in Newport. The 75-year-old David Ogden Stiers had been battling bladder cancer. Stiers joined the cast of the popular show in 1977 and was nominated for two Emmys. He also worked as a voice actor on a number of Disney animated films, including playing Cogsworth in "Beauty and the Beast."
