Non-Profit Wants To Buy Unused Jail To House Homeless

(Portland, OR)  --  A Portland non-profit wants to turn the never-opened Wapto jail into a homeless shelter.  The group Oregon Harbor of Hope is offering seven-million-dollars to buy the jail.  Oregon Harbor of Hope was organized by developer Homer Williams.  The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners is currently discussing selling the building to developer Marty Kehoe.  One commissioner voted against the sale to Kehoe on Monday, arguing the jail should be used for the homeless.
