(Portland, OR) -- Portland has a new grocery store that may reignite concerns over gentrification. "OregonLive" reports that Natural Grocers opened today on a site once proposed for a Trader Joe's location. That chain pulled out after an African American group complained that the city did nothing to prevent black and low-income residents from being forced out of the area. City leaders defended the move as an effort to serve a "food desert" that had too few grocery options. Natural Grocers has reportedly promised to hire workers that reflect the diversity of the neighborhood.
