Portland School Board Finds "Quaker" Unsuitable

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland's Franklin High School is shopping around for a new mascot.  The school board found yesterday that "The Quaker" offensively appropriates a religious faith.  The four-year effort to drop the "Quaker" mascot was started by a parent who was of the Quaker religion.  "The Oregonian" reports that it's the first time in three decades that a Portland school has been ordered to change its mascot.  That was in 1988 when the Cleveland High Indians became the Warriors.
