(Portland, OR) -- Amtrak says a Portland State University student found critically injured beside some tracks in California was likely trying to commit suicide. Amtrak said in a news conference yesterday that Aaron Salazar's injuries show he fell from the train and that multiple individuals onboard the train say he seemed distraught. Amtrak also says one of their workers found an open window on the train. Salazar's family says Amtrak's version of the story is misleading and that they believe he was beaten and left for dead in a potential hate crime. Salazar was found injured near a railroad track on May 15th and remains hospitalized.
