(Seattle, WA) -- Researchers are continuing to monitor a southern resident orca as she grieves the death of her child. The whale protection group Soundwatch tells the Seattle Times the killer whale named J35 was seen carrying her dead calf on top of her head yesterday for a seventh straight day. The newborn orca died last Tuesday just half an hour after it was born. The southern resident orcas are critically endangered due in part to a dwindling number of chinook salmon in the region.
